Description
Youth Machine Embroidery 101 – Ages 10–18
4-Class Beginner Machine Embroidery Series | No Experience Required | Machine Provided
Machine embroidery is where technology and creativity come together — and this four-class series gives young makers the opportunity to learn how embroidery machines actually work while creating projects of their own.
Youth Machine Embroidery 101 isn’t simply about choosing a design and pressing start. Students will learn the why and how behind successful machine embroidery through hands-on, project-based learning.
Class One: Machine Embroidery Basics
Our first class focuses on getting comfortable with the embroidery machine.
Students will learn:
- The basic parts of an embroidery machine
- How embroidery differs from regular sewing
- How to select and load embroidery designs
- Understanding hoop sizes
- How to hoop fabric correctly
- Choosing and using stabilizers
- Thread and needle basics
- Positioning designs
- Starting, monitoring and finishing an embroidery design
- Basic machine troubleshooting
Classes Two Through Four: Let’s Embroider!
The remaining classes are project based.
Students will use their new skills to create a variety of embroidered projects, with each project introducing new techniques and helping them become more independent at the embroidery machine.
Depending on the session, students may explore techniques such as appliqué, in-the-hoop projects, embroidery on different fabrics, design placement, colour changes and more.
Each student will complete a minimum of three finished projects during the four-class series. Please note – the December session is shorter due to the holiday; prices and projects finished will be adjusted to reflect the timing.
Projects may change between sessions, giving returning students opportunities to continue building their embroidery skills.
