BAG MAKER’S CLUB
Four weeks. One featured bag. A whole lot of new skills.
Love making bags — or ready to learn?
Fabric Stash’s Bag Maker’s Club is an ongoing four-week sewing series built around a different featured bag pattern each session.
Some bags are quick. Some are complicated. Some will take us almost the entire session.
That’s part of the fun.
Rather than rushing through a project or changing the class schedule depending on the bag, every Bag Maker’s Club session runs for four weeks. We’ll work through the featured pattern together, and any remaining class time becomes an opportunity to learn and practise new bag-making techniques.
HOW IT WORKS
Each Bag Maker’s Club session includes:
4 weekly classes *December is a shorter session, project and price reflect as such
2 hours per class
1 featured bag pattern
Additional skill-building projects and techniques as time allows
We’ll begin the session by working through the featured bag together from start to finish.
If the bag takes all four classes, perfect — we’ll have plenty of time to work carefully through the construction.
If we finish in three classes, Week 4 becomes a skill-building workshop.
If we finish in two classes, we’ll spend the remaining classes learning additional bag-making techniques.
And if we happen to finish the bag in one class, we’ve got three whole weeks to experiment, practise and add more skills to your bag-making toolbox.
There’s no rushing just to fit a project into a predetermined workshop time.
WHAT WILL WE LEARN?
Every session is different.
Depending on the featured bag and the experience of the group, additional skill-building classes may include:
- Zippers and zipper pockets
- Adjustable straps and handles
- Rivets, snaps and grommets
- Installing bag hardware
- Working with vinyl and specialty materials
- Interfacing and stabilizers
- Bag linings
- Different pocket styles
- Binding techniques
- Topstitching
- Strap connectors
- Working with zipper tape and pulls
- Professional finishing techniques
- Pattern modifications and customization
The goal isn’t just to finish one bag.
It’s to become a better bag maker.
A NEW BAG EVERY SESSION
Each four-week session features a different pattern from one of our favourite independent bag designers.
Projects will vary in style and difficulty throughout the year, giving returning Bag Maker’s Club participants an opportunity to progressively build their skills.
Some sessions will be approachable for newer bag makers, while others may require previous bag-making experience.
The recommended skill level will always be included in the session description before registration.
PATTERNS & MATERIALS
Patterns and materials are not included unless specifically stated in the class listing.
When a commercial pattern is required, each participant must have their own legitimate copy.
Bring supplies from your stash or shop Fabric Stash for fabric, vinyl, interfacing, stabilizers, zipper tape, hardware and other bag-making supplies.
Bag Maker’s Club participants receive 10% off eligible class supplies purchased through Fabric Stash.
Curated project kits may also be available for select featured bags.
MACHINES
Bring your own suitable sewing machine or reserve one of Fabric Stash’s classroom machines when available.
Machine requirements may vary depending on the featured project and materials being used.
WHO IS BAG MAKER’S CLUB FOR?
Bag Maker’s Club is designed for sewists who are comfortable with the basic operation of a sewing machine and are ready to explore bag construction.
You don’t need to be an experienced bag maker, however, if you are an absolute beginner, we recommend that you take our Adult Beginner Sewing Class – trust us, it will make things MUCH more enjoyable.
You do need to be ready to learn, experiment and occasionally meet a zipper that doesn’t want to cooperate.
JOIN ONE SESSION — OR KEEP COMING BACK
Bag Maker’s Club runs in repeating four-week sessions throughout the year.
Register for one featured bag or come back session after session as we tackle new patterns, materials, hardware and techniques.
No two sessions will be exactly the same.
One session. One featured bag. Four weeks of making.
