Adult Machine Embroidery 101
4-Class Beginner Machine Embroidery Series | No Experience Required
Have an embroidery machine you’re afraid to use? Curious about machine embroidery but don’t own a machine yet? Or maybe you’ve tried embroidery but want to understand how to get better, more consistent results.
Adult Machine Embroidery 101 takes you beyond simply loading a design and pressing start.
This four-class series is built around hands-on, project-based learning, so you’ll learn embroidery techniques while creating finished projects you can actually take home and use.
Class One: Understanding Your Embroidery Machine
We start with a complete introduction to machine embroidery, including:
- Understanding the embroidery machine and hoop
- Loading and selecting embroidery designs
- Understanding embroidery file basics
- Choosing the correct hoop
- Hooping and floating techniques
- Understanding stabilizers and when to use them
- Embroidery thread and needle selection
- Design placement
- Colour changes and thread management
- Monitoring your embroidery
- Basic troubleshooting
Classes Two Through Four: Learn Through Projects
Once you’re comfortable with the machine, we’ll put those skills into practice.
Each class introduces a project designed to teach new techniques while reinforcing what you’ve already learned.
Depending on the session, we may explore:
- Appliqué
- In-the-hoop projects
- Embroidering different fabrics
- Stabilizer selection
- Design placement
- Combining embroidery with sewing
- Working with multi-colour designs
- Finishing embroidered projects
You’ll complete a minimum of three finished projects during the four-class series. Please note – the December session is shorter due to the holiday; prices and projects finished will be adjusted to reflect the timing.
The goal isn’t simply to leave with three projects. It’s to leave understanding how and why they worked, so you can confidently tackle your own embroidery projects afterwards.
Projects may change from session to session, allowing you to continue exploring new techniques.
Materials
Materials are not included in registration.
Depending on the projects selected for your session, expect approximately $20–$60 in materials for the full four-class series.
You’ll receive a supply list before your session begins, and required materials will be available for purchase through Fabric Stash.
No previous machine embroidery experience is required, and you do not need to own an embroidery machine.
